College and my frummy friend

Shalosh suedos is a time of fun conversation. My super frummy friend, my mom, my sister, and myself help set up the shalosh suedos at my shul. We have loads of fun, because the conversation is usually my family against her (my family= "modern", my freind super frummy). This week, we had loads of fun, because another lady was there, and she came with her baby. Her baby happened to be the topic of most of our convos.

After shalosh suedos itself, as we were waiting for Havdalah, an 11 year old boy came running over and asked "why do babies put everything into their mouths?"

We tried to explain it and were like "at that age (11 months) babies don't really understand anything other than taste and they know that is their mouths, plus they're teething" So, the kid was satisfied with that answer, but my super frummy friend, decided to show off what she learned in college and she screamed out (yes in shul, thank Gd no one was around)...

"He needs to satisfy his libido through oral fixation"

I was in shock and I wasn't sure I should say anything because the baby's mother was just kind of giving her this look, like "WTH did you just say?"

The situation was amusing. Because when I did decide to speak I was like "do you have any idea what you just said?" And she was like "Yea, I learned in my psych class, Freud said that."

So then the baby's mom was like "Do you know what libido (we decided not to enlighten her on "oral fixation") is?" and she was like "I thought I did, but based on your reactions I guess I don't" So we told her what it was, in the nicest way we could, and then the mom goes "You're telling me that my 11 month old is sticking things in his mouth becuase of his sexual desires?" And so, I informed my friend, that screaming anything out in shul, that Freud said, is bad. It's simply bad. Bad move for shul.

Anyway, I said to my mother "this is why frum girls should not be going to secular colleges, they don't know what the heck they're talking about"

My mom said "but they need to go, what else will they do?"

Nah, I think it's just your friend, not everyone...de de de...
Now here's a nice Freudian thing to scream out in shul. And the best part is that it's an inside joke that only those who know will get.
"Snake, apple, gun, sword!"

Jewish Sceptic said...

haaa. Ok, very good.

But there are frum and educated people too! I was one of them...I like to think so at least...

Some of my super-frum friends didn't know basic geography, like - they thought France was the capital of Europe and other such things.

frumskeptic said...

Moshe: I would like to think its just my friend, but I doubt it.

JS: "Some of my super-frum friends didn't know basic geography"

In HS when we were learning Shakespeare (9th grade), one girl raised her hand and asked "who wrote the book, Shakespeare or Caeser?" then another girl didn't hear the teacher respond, and was like "what was the answer?!"

Then, we were learning about his theatre, and a girl raised her hand "was it in London OR England?"

and again, another girl asked "wait, What did the teacher say?"

yea...frummies...gotta love them. I was so out of place in HS...oy...

We were in the Prospect Part Zoo and on two occasions we received quiet a show.
The last time we were there we went to the petting zoo. Shlomik loves cows. He, at one and a half, immediately recognized which one was the cow. The frummy woman, not girl, points at the cow and says, "look, it's a horse."
At a different time, we were by the Red Panda exhibit. There's a sign next to the glass with facts about the animals. Again, frummy woman, looks at the panda, looks at the sign, looks at the biggest word on the sign and happily exclaims, "it's an Asia!"
Now not only does she not know that that's a panda but apparently she also doesn't know that Asia is a continent. Apparently she also can't read.

oysh, but you know what, speaking of simple geography, non-Jews in my class didn't know that either. People thought that Pauta rico was a country, they didn't realize it was part of America.

Although I'm not any better about these stuff. My neighbor loves making fun of me. I keep mixing up Saddam Hussein and Asama Ben Laden. Now its a joke already. But seriously, I can't remember which one went into hiding and which is dead? or their both dead? lol

Ookamikun said...

Actually, they want you to think he's dead. They're both alive and plotting to overthrow the Virgin Islands.
Today the Virgin Islands, tomorrow Puerto Rico!

Jessica said...

You'd think she would have looked up the words she didn't understand before repeating it to other people...

Jewish Side of Babysitter said...

oops, about "Puerto Rico".
(google gave me the wrong spell check)

the opinion said...

Her familiy is chassidish?

Ookamikun said...

Probably, or Satmar.

frumskeptic said...

opinion & moshe: lol. she is not chassidish. lol.

hahaha

She's just completly sheltered (which shocks me, she didn't go to suchy a frummy school!!).
lol...I'm going to write another post about her. :)

Ookamikun said...

Oh, I thought the question was about the ones I encountered.
How old is she? I really pity her husband.

frumskeptic said...

moshe: maybe he ws talking to you...lol...w/e. Still gonna write more about my friend tho :)

It's not the school, IMHO, it's the upbringing.
(and no, FS isn't referring to me :) )

Ookamikun said...

No? But your names match ;-)

Anonymous said...

LOL indeed I am seen as "frummy" which is why I chose this as my "username". FS knows me and she knows I read her blog...plus, I'm not in college. Anyway, I wouldn't dare say something like that :) Even if I would, definitely not in public.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the laugh!

When I took a Social Studies class at college for the summer, the teacher handed out maps of Europe to see what people knew.
I was the only one in the class who could name the countries and even got the bonus of "Luxemberg".

frumskeptic said...

frummy: You're funny :-)
You're a "normal" frummy...not a "super frummy" like the other friend. hehe :)

Anonymous said...

LOL FS - thanks ;-) (TTYL)

Yehudi Hilchati said...

I think that's why super frummy kids DO need to go to college. Most actually learn, not just repeat things like your friend.

In any case, babies put everything in their mouths because it's an instinctive way of exploring the world. The mouth is very tactile and they put things there to feel them and understand what they're holding. Their hands are too clumsy at that age to sufficiently explore.

Freud had some interesting ideas but he put sexuality into way to many explanations.

of course she had no idea what she is talking about she is like a sponge and just absorbs whatever it is she hears...u know as well as i that she has no education in anything that matters in the secular world therefore when it comes to such things she says the first thing that comes to mind. what this super frummy friend doesnt realize is that freud had no real idea what the hell he was talking about yes i will agree that some of the things he said makes sense some ways however the whole sexual libido at 11 months is highly unlikely. its like if u ask a 3 year old boy if he wants to kill his father so that he can "get" with his mother or even emulate his father to "hook up" with his mother....etc. the point is she doesnt have the full info to say what she said and back to the fact that she screamed it out in shul is even worse. well im sure everyone can agree on one thing forsure: she should think before she speaks.

I don't exactly agree with Freud's psychology, but the point of it is that it's all subconscious. Of course if you ask a 3 year old boy that he wouldn't give that answer, but subconsciously, Freud believes, that is exactly what the boy wants to do... he just doesn't realize it.

So, im totally disturbed by the comments from the babysitter, i mean misspellings are one thing - well i mean i dont know why you had to google puerto rico, i mean damn. but to mess up osama bin laden and sadam hussein, i respect the writer of this blog less just for having "the babysitter" comments displayed. I mean really your in college and you confuse osama and saddam, im totally disturbed by this, this is our future...thats just so wrong, well I hope that you at least marry well.

p.s...the babysitter, sadam is the one our troops captured and killed and osama is running for president, oops I mean obama :) osama is on the run (we didnt kill him yet, but stay positive).

....your fav. anony :-)

Ookamikun said...

Yo, anony, you made at least 25 grammar and spelling mistakes!
So stfu.

Anonymous said...

moshe, i made mistakes but i didnt write stfu, I wonder if R' Binsky would approve.

Ookamikun said...

25 is not a few.
And you just made 5 more.
Approve of what? Of you reading blogs?

Anonymous said...

no, you being so aggressive, go play more video gamesjw :)

Ookamikun said...

Ah aint being no aggressive. Alls I sayin is aint right for you ta complain if ya cant spell right.
And you said damn so you be quiet.

Anonymous said...

I don't speak like a hick I just don't have time to spell check everything. Well I'm sure you don't spell check...Hell you blog any chance you get, blogs, postings, I mean everywhere you decide to place in your two cents.
I have to log off now (I actually have a life) but just one more thing. Its pretty silly to compare spelling mistakes to not being able to differentiate between osama and sadam. The latter being a really sad thing especially with her being a Jew and both of these people being so important to Jewish politics. With that said...Moshe if I were you, I would pretend to be anonymous once in a while, you really seem like you have too much free time on your hands. I hope to one day read a blog where I dont have to see your comments. I'm done now. Writing this, even with all my mistakes, takes too much time...Chaval ala zman.

anony. :)

Anonymous said...

Don't compare damn to stfu, one is passive, one is aggressive.

Ookamikun said...

Them fighting words.
You don't have time to spell check? FireFox does it as you type!
So who is this anyway, hiding behind "anonymous"
I don't post anonymously for 2 main reasons. One, unlike you, I'm not afraid of openly stating my opinions. Two, it means exposure for my blog.

frumskeptic said...

Yehudi: "I think that's why super frummy kids DO need to go to college. Most actually learn, not just repeat things like your friend."

Nea, Most of them do not learn. Thats the problem. Most just go for what they need and ignore the rest. THey're taught, from childhood, to learn for one thing...to pass the test. The information is not something they view as important. Jewish Sceptic is right, they dont have secular nor Jewish Education...Just yesterday I was speaking to a friend of mine and I mentioned the Story between Yehuda and Tamar, and she had NO idea what I was talking about. The only "education" they have is how to date, how to keep a good reputation, for themselves and for their siblings

Anony: this is the reason I stay away from politics...

ALL PPL: Please be nice to each other. seriously now.

frumskeptic said...

Frustrated Frummie; I agree with Jessica's response.

As much as I disagree with Freud, he didnt mean the kids are conscience.

Also, In the case of my friend, she would have no way of "thinking about what she is saying" because she has nothing to think about. She had NO idea there was something wrong with saying "Libido" or "Oral Fixation" in shul...or wel...generally in that context loudly when its in reference to an 11 month old!!

Jewish Side of Babysitter said...

Anonymous: I was waiting for that kinda comment. That's what inspired me to write my "the staircase of life" post.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous - I wouldn't be judging people on their knowledge or lack of. Let me remind you, that until recently you haven't heard of Planet X.

Anonymous said...

Moshe, I have a great response to your comment about writing comments just to get people interested in your post - however I promised the blogger to be nice, and unless further provoked, I will ignore you.

mlevin - :) yes thats true along with santa clause and the easter bunny :) btw, you really should be rlevin.

Ookamikun said...

What I said was that I don't post anonymously to get a link not that I comment to get a link. Learn to read.
If your excuses for posting anonymously is because you don't want to setup an account, a couple of my friends that posted comments on my blog had the decency to write their name at the end. Stop hiding behind mommy's skirt, especially when you're saying something nasty like "I hope to one day read a blog where I dont have to see your comments."
I think you're just a coward.

Anonymous said...

You know here's the thing...I dont like you, I didnt like you before you were aggressively rude and wrote "stfu" and now I like you even less. In fact, I actually dislike you. And i'm even someone that you know...So no, im not a coward, just someone who wants to annoy you, since (again, lets reiterate) - I don't like you. The blogger knows who I am, and my comments are intended for them - this is just an added bonus :)

and as per "Two, it means exposure for my blog" Moshe, your comments are everywhere - really though, your comments are as insightful as the amount of hair you have on your head. Do you really think you need to expose your BS more?

...your fav. anony :)

Ookamikun said...

Still the coward.

Ookamikun said...

You really are pathetic, you know. Act your age not mental capacity.

frumskeptic said...

Anonymous: I TOLD YOU TO BE NICE!

FOR REAL!

I'm gonna deny the right to post anonymously!! And if you give yourself a name like "your fave anonymous" I'll just DELETE YOUR POSTS!

SHEESH!!!!!!!!
I FEEL LIKE I"M BACK IN KINDERGARDEN!

THIS IS WHY I CAN NEVER BE A TEACHER. I'D END UP CURSING !!

Noo...wait...kindergardeners are more mature...and I have patience for them because they DO NOT KNOW BETTER! YOU ARE AN ADULT!!!

OMG!!!!!!!

YOU MADE MEEEEEE SNAP (I know in real life thats not a hard thing to do, but on my own blog!!!! THIS BLOG IS SUPPOSED TO BE THERAPEUTIC FOR ME!!)

Anonymous said...

but he started it :) LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ookamikun said...

I didn't start. You said that "the babysitter's" comments should be deleted and I told you you can't spell. You can't even take responsibility for your actions.

Anonymous said...

Moshe I will defend my comment about her post being sad and pathetic. Your response of "stfu" is obnoxious and typical you...Your still pathetic, i'm done now, just because this will go on with you forever. Good night, I will let you have last word, cause petty people need petty assurances.

:) anony.

Ookamikun said...

so in other words, anything not posted by you is sad and pathetic.

Jewish Side of Babysitter said...

wow, what a chain effect.

frum skeptic: Some kids can be impossible that way. I was actually talking to a friend today and she's a teacher in a kindergarden. She said one of the boys there has anger issues and he would get tantrums and throw tables and chairs and hurt the other kids. So they had this contest of whoever behaved the best got to go to the ice cream store, and of course this boy wasn't chosen, so the boy was getting very mad, he ran into the closet and he was gonna come out and harm the other kids, so my friend stood by the door and didn't let him come out till all the other boys left the room which was just a minute. But then the other teacher told her that she was abusing the kid that way and couldn't do that. I told her not to worry that she didn't do anything wrong, its not like she put the kid in the closet in the first place, but it can be tough to decide what to do in these situations.

frumskeptic said...

Babysitter: LOL LOL!

Moshe, I just want to apologize. I sincerely have nothing again you personally or otherwise and think I took the "stfu" a little too personally. I sincerely hope that you accept my apology.
