lol...looks official.
You know what I was just thinking today. They could never ban girl concerts, because men can't watch it, so they wouldn't know if its ban material or not.

the opinion said...

if they would focus on kiruv org. they would realize that they have all sorts of untzinusdick events

babysitter: I wouldnt underestimate the ability for Rabbonim to ban girl concerts. They'd send their wives as spies or s/t. Didnt ur HS send spies to J&M before/after shabos to make sure girl's arent in the pizza places?

opinion: dont give them any ideas ;), or else they'd ban kiruv all together (not that I'm pro kiruv, but still)

What's J&M?

frumskeptic said...

aves J& M. lol.

o, lol, I was slow. (What about Kings Highway?)
but nope, I don't think my HS sent spies on us. But we weren't allowed to leave our block by lunch time, so there was no need for spies.
But actually by our school production, I remember there were issues with the music the girls used for dances, because it came from Disney stuff or something. Not many people recognized it, cause they wouldn't know from it. But I think we ended up using it.

my principal admitted to sending spies everywhere. it was awful.
my bestfriends mom was the bio teacher, and she went on vacation with her family to orlando. The principal gave permission for the girl to skip school, and told the mother (bio teacher) that she'd be willing to pay her for part of the trip so that she would see if any girls are there that shouldn't be (who weren't given permission). thats awful!!

Another one of my friends (wasn't frum at all) wanted to be in the program I was in but was forced to be mainstreamed b/c she was in the school for so long she already knew hebrew. but the principal wouldn't let. anyway, she was caught kissing a guy in her apartment building (her neighbor took a pic and sent it to the school) and she got expelled.

I guess she was looking out for the well being of her students. But yea I can see how that would be awful. Its like bribing the teacher to get the girls in trouble. By us the principal would just give a speech before the summer or a long vacation and remind us that even though its summer and there's no school....
The second story, that's just plain mean of the neighbor.

Facebook is finally assur. What took them so long?

Jersey: The Rebbeim banned the internet altogether multiple times aside for business reasons. I can't understand why FACEBOOK needs a separate ban, its part of the net!

I'm curious though, you think these guys heard of Myspace?

It REALLY annoys me when I hear about this spy business. A male friend of mine was "caught" walking with a group of people on shabbos, some of whom were not boys.

The next school day he was "asked" if he'd be comfortable in another school...

Heck, now I remember it, I was asked if I'd be comfortable in another school, and I said "probably" and left the room.

I just don't get it. The people that have facebook are "the moderns" (who don't follow these rabeim anyway) and the "non-moderns" who will continue using facebook anyway even when these rabeim say not to do it. So really all they're doing is preaching to people that are not theirs to preach to and causing those that are theirs to preach to to "sin".

Jewish Side of Babysitter said...

Jessica: its not a real ban.
But you have a good point.
Although there was a Rabbi who spoke against facebook at one of his shiurs, and I heard a lot of people went off of facebook because of that. Their the type who don't really use it anyways, and they just have it cause everyone tells them to get it.

Its a mockup. For starters, the lettering of facebook is a darker black than the rest.

Ah, okay. Actually I've been sitting on this idea for a while. At the shul where my husband goes their was some (real) ban on going to concerts in Madison Square Garden and I used this same argument then. Too bad this one is fake though :-( But at least I finally got to voice my opinion on these kinds of matters to someone other than my husband :-)

And by "their" I meant "there"... G-d I hate grammar mistakes...

American yeshiva administration = Russian KGB.
Same tactics.
I wonder if bribing the teacher is actually legal.
So is facebook assur if you use it for business?

frumskeptic said...

moshe: LOL!!! Now that you mention it, there are definitly similarities between the American Yeshiva system and the KGB. lol!!
I think you just gave me an idea for a post...unfortunately I'm busy this week...but I'll probably procrostinate ... :)
yay...thanx :)

Anyway...teachers can be bribed...in a sense, my sister schools doesnt have uniform, but has a very strict dress code. She says that girls tend to wear "short" skirts that do not exactly cover their knees. ANd the school only punishes the girls that are on scholarship, but tends to ignore girls who are rich, yet still breaking the dress code/law of tznious. Money talks in both worlds.

About facebook and business..ask your Rav..hahaha :-)

my sister's school****

lol

gonna ask a lawyer...
about facebook, don't actually care, just commenting ;-)
next they'll ban LinkedIn.
I don't see anything wrong w facebook, I use it to share pics and vids and stay in touch with friends. also found extended family.
those Rabbis should check out Russian version of facebook :-D

I think these bans are great. Their utter absurdity forces some of the most sheltered to see the backwardness of their ways.

Too bad they have to make Judaism in general look foolish to do that.

Frum Skeptic, I'm not sure if it was you, but I remember someone saying that they came out with a new thing that e-mails and text messaging became a new addiction.
So I saw it here: http://www.vosizneias.com/2008/03/new-york-do-you-email-and-text.html
