Moron Uncle

I have three uncles. Two of them are smart, and one of them isn't exactly the brightest crayon in the box if you know what I mean.

My mom called him up to inform him of my engagment, and he goes "wait, is she engaged or is she getting married?"

umm...is there a difference?

Then he began to give my mom a whole lecture about how its wrong that fiance and I will not be living together before we get married. So mom says "um, do you really think you are qualified to give marraige advice?" (He divorced after 6 months of marraige, and broke up with every girl he began living with after a few months); so my uncle responds "Marraige has nothing to do with divorce."

Its like, then what does it have to do with, mr. uncle? Please enlighten me!

Mom continued on speaking to him and he says (knowing fully well that fiance and I are orthodox) "Are they having a church wedding or are they doing it the Jewish way?"

WTH!?

this stuff really makes me put the concept of "family first" into perspective. It's like "does this include *all* family?

PLEASE invite him to your wedding. I want to hear his opinion of the evening!

The guy sounds priceless! And, while I'm not 100% sure what marriage has to do with divorce, I'm pretty sure that, while you can have a marriage without a divorce, it's much more difficult to arrange a divorce without a marriage.

Definitely, you need to have this guy at your wedding, and you need to have him offer a toast. Get it on video to show your grandchildren.

my uncle will be invited, but he probably won't come. My other uncle (his brother) will be getting married a month before I will. and since the moron uncle lives in a different state it'll be difficult for him to make it to both weddings. but if he comes, I will def have my mom document the convos.lol.

The joys of being BT ;-)
Even I don't have anybody that retarded. Ironically, the not Jewish relatives would never come up with something that stupid.

I was talking with your mom about that on odnoklassniki.
Btw, I told her how my friend got his catering hall so you should be all set now.

Even non-frum Jews (who marry other Jews) don't get married in a church. *rolls eyes* What a jerk.

In fairness, a number of smaller Reform congregations share spaces with liberal Churches, so they might well get married in a Church that happened to be playing Synagogue that day.
