More Stupidity from my sister's teacher

I thought I pretty much dealt with a life time's worth of stupid these past few weeks, but apparently, Gd is trying to push the limit of my endurance.

I came home VERY late (12:40 am) to be exact. My mom happened to be up and so she told me all about my sister's teacher, who in my book, should be fired for all the stupid she managed to spew within the 4 months that passed of this school year (see: These People Should Not Teach )

Ok, so, I'll be honest I haven't been updating myself much with wacko frum things (I've been busy lately). Well, so anyway, it seems (again I did not look this up) as if some Rosh Yeshiva or some "Gadol" (is there a difference?) has decided recently to speak out against texting.

My sister's teacher was relaying the message to the girls, and one of the girls asked "What is so wrong with texting?" and the teacher said "It can lead to talking to boys..." (I'm not even going to delve into the fact that you cannot just randomly text a boy, you have to know him *already* to do that).

Now...wtf...really...wtf (wth is just not enough)...wanna guess what the rest of the "..." led to?

NO...don't try...you won't get it...its out of this world!

The teacher said that "...and one should commit suicide rather than doing that"

hmm...so lets see... Lets go back into my past...

I woulda been dead the day of my 12th birthday! Heck, I probably wouldn't have ever been conceived...nor Cain and Abel...

WTF!

I had the exact same conversation with my cousins, except substitute "boy" for "girl".

This teacher *really* needs to get laid.

I have heard of it leading to send 100 text messages over shabbos. This is also a stupid reason.

Suicide? I think that's a violation of a d'oraisa, while texting is (to stretch a point a very, very long way) a mere d'rabbanan.

People should avoid text-messaging because it leads to atrocious syntax and a poor writing style. Religiously, I don't see anything all that significant about it.

Girls can get pregnant from a text message. A friend told me so.

Text messaging is also the number one route for STD transmission in America.

Oh, and it's causing global warming. And gives you cancer.

My brother knows a guy who died when a text message caused his cell phone to explode.

Does the teacher really not realize how stupid that sounds?

If you get a text from number 999, don't read it and delete it immediately. The text contains a subliminal message that makes the user send it to all of his/her contacts and then commit suicide.

Other than the potential of running up one's cell phone bill (and since most new plans include texting nowadays, it's almost a non-issue), I really don't see the problem.
Homeschooling is starting to sound better all the time!

aztecqueen2000- homeschooling would be an awesome idea if you have the patience.

or the time

btw, texting is dangerous. Whenever someone texts me, I get charged $.20 and that makes me homicidal.

And guess what..texting leads to talking to boys which leads to relationships which sometime result in heartbreak(every young person should their heart broken at least 8 times) which sometimes leads to marriage oy vey Than the warped minded parents have to procure the services of a professional shadcan to "redd" the shidduch to legitimize it.

These comments are all hilarious! I'm speechless. How is that teacher still allowed to teach?! I'm curious...What did the girls say/do after the teacher responded in such a ludicrous way?

I actually once had a DMC with my cousin from Lakewood about this, she told me it wasn't good for me to chat with guys. I think you would enjoy what she wrote. I can e-mail it to you. I actually had it as a facebook note, and it got 100's of comments, but then I was afraid it was too personal or something, so I took it down. I thought I saved all the comments and everything, but then I redid my computer and I think I may have lost it. But I have saved a printed version of it too.

o, and btw, I heard that the cell phone companies make the most money out of their texting plans. Because if you notice they give you a 140 character limit, that is because whenever a call goes through there is that amount needed to reach the cell tower or something. SO really the text messages cost them no money at all. I'm not sure if I'm saying it all right, here's the Source

You're right. In America the cell phone companies have a strangle hold on texting and general software development. You need to pay a lot of money upfront and then still face the risk of being turned down. America is very behind compared to Asia and Europe. They screw you over even more by charging for both outgoing and incoming. I don't have unlimited and have no way to prevent people from texting me. At least with phone calls, you can not pick up and not get charged. Every time someone texts me, $.20.

FrumSkeptic: I actually found what I was looking for with the comments and all! Anyways I read it over and decided to post it, so it's here: DMC with my cousin

Moshe: yea, that's annoying, I used to not have texts, and when people would send me it would cost money. SO I told my father I can't stop these people from sending me, so it's probably better to get a 5 dollar plan for 300 texts, so now I have that.

moshe- Just block texting, I think if you call the company, they'll do it.

babysitter- I'll read the thing another night, I'm soooo looking forward to a convo llike that. lol. :-)

Ookamikun said...

It's a hassle and there's no way to block all texting except from some people. You can only block all by calling company or block some by logging in to account.

Moshe - we used to have blocked texting, but my work people would still send a text now and then. I called our cell phone provider and they told me, that since our texting is blocked all texts that still go through are free.
