This video was made by "secular" people for "secular" people. By some feminists I'm sure, about dating. Its so cute. All you need is a few changes and you got the typical frum family. Gotta love how we think we're so different, but really not.
The Sad Truth About The Typical American Relationship
Btw, I received the video from Frummy :). I give credit where its due.

The cynicism was a bit too much for me. Clearly written by someone who's been burned one too many times and been a "friend of the bride" one too many times. I do see your point in the similarities though.
How would you define "typical"? I sure hope that video wasn't the typical frum couple!!
(BTW for all you regular FS commenters, this is frummy...I just got my own blog...thanks FS for letting me advertise :P)
"...been a 'friend of the bride' one too many times..."
Yep, always the pole bearer, never the corpse.
I'm almost exactly 2 years older than my wife, 11 days difference. And the wedding was in the middle.
It was pretty typical, take out sex before marriage, replace 3 dogs with 6 kids, done.
Frummy, wanted to check out your blog...
Why make a by invitation only blog?
You don't want people to read it?
I mean, it sounds shocking that both frum people and secular people both go through different financial considerations, having kids, old age, yadda yadda. But the difference is, like Jessica mentions, is that we are not cynical about it all as this person makes it out to be.
It's not surprising that people of the same economic background have similar experiences, because humans are fundamentally the same and people in the same economic catagory are fundamentally the same.
As for those who say "we [the frum] are not so cynical about it" I would steer clear of generalisations. You won't have to look far for people who are disillusioned with the shidduch system, frum society, frum dating in general, the lack of decent, good looking and interesting frum boys/girls etc.
I think the cynicism isn't representative of all secular people, just people on the frum and secular side who have had a bit of trouble in with relationships and/or dating lives in the past.
Jewish Skeptic
You are right. But this video was not portraying just the dating life and the shidduch crisis that we have all heard about. Its basically portraying a total cynical look at life in general. And yes, we have all our parts where we just shout out with frustration, from certain particulars, but that video was just cynical from A-Z
HH,
i believe my original objection to generalisations still apply. you're bound to find frum people who think this way...ask any frum psychologist. Various high-profile kiruvy-like rabbis have written on the subject of depression, how to be happy etc, all of which is revealed in a preliminary google search.
Unfortunately, depression and cynicism exists both inside and outside the frum community, because humans experience things in fundamentally the same way.
I think the video stated it's solution within the story; thought, philosophy, religion, spirituality, trying to go beyond, that is the only thing which justifies our meager existences here...
